Claudia Ortega Hogue a lifelong community advocate, non-profit professional, and business entrepreneur. Claudia currently serves as President of the League of Women Voters of Houston as is proudly the first Latina to lead our organization in this role. For over 20 years, she has focused on advocacy for non-profit organizations and underserved communities as well as raising awareness for social concerns through education, naturalization/immigration, census, and voting.
Claudia served as the District Director for the 29th Congressional District of the U.S. House of Representatives for one of the first Latina’s to ever represent the State of Texas. In this role, she oversaw the management and operation of the district office, served as a key liaison to local elected officials, community organizations, constituent services, businesses and Washington, DC. Her primary focus areas included congressional representation, immigration, voting, decennial census, and government affairs at the local, state, and federal level.
Prior to joining the U.S. House of Representatives, Claudia worked over a decade as the Southwest Regional and Texas State Director with the National Association of Latino Elected & Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund. NEF is the nation’s leading non-profit, non-partisan organization that facilitates and promotes full participation of Latinos in the American political process. She focused on U.S. citizenship/naturalization, civic participation and integration, voter engagement and census mobilization campaigns throughout Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.
Claudia's most recent appointment by the Houston Mayor to serve on the Advisory Council of New Americans and Immigrant Communities for the City of Houston. She serves in community associations, local and national nonprofit board positions.
Claudia has been featured and profiled in The New York Times and Latina Lista. She has been recognized as “Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women” by the Houston Woman Magazine, "Changer Maker Award" by the New Leaders Council-Houston, “Community Women of the Year” by Solo Mujeres, “35 Houston Latinos You Should Know!” by the Houston Chronicle, “2023 Mayor’s Volunteer Appreciation Award” by the City of Houston, “2023 Top 50 Women Leaders of Houston” by Women We Admire, and most recently "2023 Campeón de la Comunidad " by the Houston Texans.
