Welcoming our newest citizens to civic life

ONE NEW REGISTERED VOTER AT A TIME

Naturalization Ceremonies

Registering to vote is a powerful act of patriotism. When new citizens take their oath of allegiance to the United States at naturalization ceremonies, the League of Women Voters of Houston is there to register and enable them to cast their ballot at the very next election. It is an exciting privilege that few new citizens take for granted.

We are one of the few voter registration groups welcomed into naturalization ceremonies in the nation. In this past year alone, we have registered 21,500 new citizens to vote with more than 400 VDVRs deployed.

On July 10, only two days after Hurricane Beryl made landfall, more than 2,200 new Americans took the oath of citizenship at NRG Arena.

Interested in registering people to vote? The first step is to become a Volunteer Deputy Voter Registrar. Find out How!
