KATIE CAMPBELL SHUMWAY

LWV Houston Executive Director

Katie Campbell Shumway is a dedicated leader with a passion for promoting voting rights, voter education, and election integrity. As the Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of Houston, she stands at the forefront of the fight for democracy.

Katie has overseen a remarkable growth of more than 900% in the past five years, positioning the Houston chapter as the fastest growing in the country. Notably, this expansion includes the addition of full-time staff and investments in digital resources to better analyze data and assess electoral impact. These robust tools provide voters with user-friendly options to build a custom ballot, check registration status, and contact elected officials. New initiatives include digital, audio, and ebook versions of the League’s cornerstone publication, the Houston Voters Guide, dedicated youth voter activation programs in high schools and college campuses, and a strategic plan to transition first-time voters into lifelong voters.

Beyond her professional achievements, Katie is a community volunteer, championing causes such as literacy through the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation and environmental conservation at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center. She serves as a volunteer deputy voter registrar and takes pride in being a devoted mom to two-year-old Amelia, alongside her husband, Matt.
