Voting Information:

What dates do I need to know?

  • Last day to register to vote for general election: Monday, October 5, 2020
  • Last day to apply for ballot by mail: October 23*
  • Early Voting: Tuesday, October 13 to Friday, October 30, 2020
  • Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 2020

*Allow time for contingencies and request and request/return as soon as possible.

I need a voter registration card.

To vote in the November 3 general election, you must register to vote by October 5th. If you would like the League of Women Voters of Houston to send you a pre-paid voter registration card (English or Spanish), fill out our form. You will receive your voter registration card in the mail, and then you can fill out the voter registration form at home and send it to the Secretary of State's office with no cost to you for postage or printing.

I want to vote by mail.

Voters may cast mail ballots if they are at least 65 years old, if they will be out of Harris County during the Early Voting period and on Election Day, if they are sick or disabled or if they are incarcerated but eligible to vote. Mail ballots may be requested by visiting harrisvotes.com or by phoning 713-755-6965. You can also download the mail ballot application here. A signed paper copy of your ballot by mail request must be received no later than Friday, October 23, 2020. Requests received by fax or email will not be honored. The last day to receive ballot by mail is—

  • Tuesday, November 3, 2020 (Election Day) at 7:00 p.m. if carrier envelope is not postmarked OR
  • Wednesday, November 4, 2020 (next business day after Election Day) at 5:00 p.m. if carrier envelope is postmarked by 7:00 p.m. at the location of the election on Election Day (unless overseas or military voter deadlines apply)4

What can I vote for in this general election in Harris County?

All Harris County voters will select from candidates for the President/Vice President, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, Texas House of Representatives, Railroad Commissioner, District Attorney, County Attorney, Sheriff, County Tax Assessor-Collector, County Clerk, Constables, Justices of the Peace and Harris County Department of Education Trustee.

Additionally, all voters will be choosing the Chief Justice and Justices of the Texas Supreme Court, the Chief Justice and Judges of the Court of Criminal Appeals, as well as several District Judges and County Court-at-Law Judges.

Depending on where you live, you may also be selecting your Texas State Senator, County Commissioner, and members of the State Board of Education.

I'm having problems at my polling place.

Should you encounter any problems at the poll, you may always ask to cast a Provisional Ballot. You may also contact the County Clerk’s office at 713-755-6965, the Texas Secretary of State Election Division at 1-800-252-8683, or the United States Department of Justice at 1-800-253-3931 if you believe that your right to vote is being unlawfully denied or impeded.
