In Memoriam – Honoring the lives of longtime League members and supporters
Gloria Herman passed away on Friday, August 14 at the age of 96. Gloria served as President of the League of Women Voters of Houston from 1950 – 1951. She was an unfailing supporter of our Repast luncheons, always taking an honored place at the Suffragist Circle table. Gloria was also a voter registration superstar, welcoming new citizens to the electorate with enthusiasm. You can read more about Gloria here: https://tinyurl.com/y5s5eytu. Lila Lerner, a long-time friend and supporter of the League of Women Voters, passed away on July 28, 2020. Lila was an enthusiastic volunteer deputy voter registrar at Naturalization Ceremonies, participating in the voter registration of many new citizens over the years. Matilda Melnick passed away on July 19, 2020. She was a lifelong supporter of civil rights and equal justice, and contributed to multiple charitable and non-profit organizations including the League of Women Voters. Her obituary can be found at https://tinyurl.com/yyfghpzk.
Martha Murphree passed away on June 1, 2020. She had served LWV-Houston as an exemplary treasurer, organizational vice president, board trustee and Repast organizer. Most of all, she won our hearts with her boundless optimism and good cheer.
