Get Out To Vote Rally – October 22, 2022

As part of the Leagues’ focus on voter empowerment and turnout, the LWVH worked with a coalition of local groups including Divine Nine, Houston Defender Network, NAACP, HAUL, Wheeler Avenue Social Justice Ministry, 100 Black Men, 100 Black Women and the Mayor’s Office to expand community outreach efforts to diverse population groups and facilitate voter turnout for the November 8, 2022 election.
As part of this turnout effort, a Get Out To Vote rally was held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, in which the LWVH played a leadership role to show support for the upcoming election and the importance of fact-based, nonpartisan elections information. Voters Guides and the Leagues’ “Why I Should Vote” flyer were distributed to rally attendees for voter education purposes.

This rally was an important opportunity for the LWVH to further increase our visibility in the broader community and ensure that the goals and targets set forth in the grant from the Houston Endowment are met. This event also furthered our commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), which is a prominent goal of our organization.
Media coverage of the event provided an opportunity to demonstrate to the public which issues are most important to the community. Attendees brought signs showing the issues they were most concerned about, including: our democracy, voting rights, the economy, crime, public education, women’s health and more.
We appreciate everyone who attended the rally for your support of this event and for the support all LWVH members provide daily in fulfilling our mission of empowering voters and defending democracy.
