President
PRISCILA TRUE

Dear Members, Supporters, and Friends of the League of Women Voters of Houston,
I am incredibly humbled and honored to step into the role of President of the Board of Directors for the League of Women Voters of Houston.
My journey to this moment began long before I ever imagined myself in this seat. As a little girl, I immigrated to the United States with my family in search of opportunity, and through civic engagement I learned the power of my voice. This moment is deeply meaningful—not just for me personally, but for what it represents. This year, we mark 105 years since women in Houston first organized under the banner of the League to fight for the right to vote. To stand here now, over a century later, is both a privilege and a responsibility I do not take lightly.
I carry into this role the wisdom and encouragement of the women who came before me—those who mentored me, challenged me, and walked beside me. Their voices echo in mine, and their example reminds me that leadership is rooted in service.
There’s a quote that has long guided me, and I want to share it with you:
“We shall some day be heeded, and when we shall have our amendment to the Constitution of the United States, everybody will think it was always so… They have no idea of how every single inch of ground that she stands upon today has been gained by the hard work of some little handful of women of the past.”
-Susan B. Anthony
These words, spoken by suffragist pioneer, remind us that our freedoms were not given—they were earned. And they must be protected. We are living in a time that calls on us to remember who we are and what we stand for.
The League of Women Voters is, and must remain, a steadfast, nonpartisan force defending every person’s right to participate in our democracy. That means educating voters, ensuring access to the ballot, fighting for fair representation, and never wavering in our commitment to equity and inclusion.
My priorities as President are clear:
- To preserve and elevate our nonpartisan mission.
- To uphold the legacy of the women’s rights movement by protecting the right to vote for all.
- To work with our Executive Director and board to sharpen our strategic vision for the next five years.
- And to ensure that each of you—our members, partners, and community—feel empowered to use your voice boldly and confidently.
Because your voice matters. It always has. And together, our voices are unstoppable.
I believe that relationships matter. That we are shaped by our stories. That passion should drive our purpose. That leadership rooted in integrity and service can change the world. And above all—that we must lift others as we climb.
There is so much to do—and I couldn’t be more excited to do it with you. I look forward to serving this organization, this community, and Houston, which is the place I call home. Let’s get to work. Our democracy depends on it.
With gratitude and determination,
Priscila True
