Houston Women: Agitating, Educating, and Advocating

As part of the Tales of Houston Women collaboration, HHA will present its 7th Houston History Conference, a one-day presentation of panels and roundtable discussions entitled “Houston Women: Agitating, Educating, Advocating.” The full day of programming will include panel discussions by women who are not only experts in the history of Houston’s women and their roles as agitators, educators, and advocates, but who have lived the history and can reflect on their own experiences. Conference goes will engage in direct dialog with the panels as we look at how women can continue to lead the city now and into the future. The conference will also include the Houston Popup Museum, sponsored by the UH Center for Public History. Free to the public, the museum will feature exhibits by area history and humanities-focused organizations. There will also be a vendor area where area organizations can promote their programing.

    Speakers include:

Keynote: Dr. Laura G. Murillo, President and CEO of Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

Agitate: Renee Cross (Moderator), Tanya Debose, Ada Edwards, Annise Parker

Educate: Elizabeth Gregory (Moderator), Linda Cohn, Judge Phyllis Frye, Kristen Contos Krueger

Advocate: Council Member Ellen Cohen (Moderator), Dorothy Gibbons, Nikki Van Hightower, Gracie Saenz
